Karat
All karats of gold have value. The karat indicates how much of the item is pure gold. 24K
is recognized as “pure gold” and 12K is 0.500 gold (50%), 14K is 0.585 (58.5%) and so on.
Most often we see 10K, 14K, and 18K gold but we have seen a variety of karats show up at
people’s gold parties.
Platinum
We also accept platinum. Platinum comes in percentages of "pure".
What do we see?
We see all kinds of jewelry. Most of what we see are broken chains, worn rings, or items
that are just plain “out of style”. You would also be surprised at how often we see dental
gold. Many of the items have funny or interesting stories behind them. We see many
single earrings and it seems there is usually some kind of story behind them.
How do we pay?
We pay based on the scrap value of the gold. That means that we review the latest price
of gold the day of the party and base what we pay on the going rate. We can not appraise
your jewelry or pay based on the artistic or antique value of the item. We also do not buy
gem stones. If you have a sizable gem in a prong setting we can usually remove it at the
gold party for you.
